Continuing its guest chef series, the Elephant in Torquay has revealed two top chefs who will be joining its line-up this autumn.

Chris Simpson, head chef of two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac, will be cooking on 18 October, followed by Mark Poynton of Michelin-starred Alimentum in Cambridge who will be cooking on 22 November.

Simpson has worked in a variety of well acclaimed restaurants such as St Enodoc in Rock; Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh; and the Vineyard in Stockcross. He is known for creating delicate dishes with rich flavours.

Poynton, who worked with Daniel Clifford at his two-Michelin-starred restaurant, Midsummer House in Cambridge, took over modern European restaurant, Alimentum, in 2010.

Chef-proprietor, Simon Hulstone said: “I introduced the guest chef evenings to offer something different to the Torbay diners and I’ve been humbled to have so many fantastic chefs on board. Each has brought his own style and ethos into the kitchen which provides a unique experience for diners. It’s been a huge success and I look forward to welcoming many more over the coming months.”

The next guest chef to join Hulstone at the Elephant is Adam Bennett, chef director of the Cross at Kenilworth, who will be serving a five course menu on 17 August.

The menu includes: smoked eel, roast cauliflower, capers, sultanas and sorrel; chicken liver parfait, beetroot, blackcurrants, hibiscus; crispy duck egg, white asparagus, English cured ham; rump of Cornish lamb, smoked leek, cockles, dashi potatoes, sea vegetables; and raspberry, lychee and rose.
