Another day, another list… this weekend saw the publication of Matthew Norman’s 22 favourite restaurants, according to the scores awarded in his reviews.
It certainly got people talking, as these things so often do, which is a lot of the point I suppose. While Norman’s top score went to Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, Cumbria, the majority of restaurants on the list were from London – 15 in total.
This sparked a conversation between @GuideGirl
about what a top 20 as voted for by Twitter might look like. Would it demonstrate a more even geographical spread? Because let’s face it – there’s a lot of gastronomic talent across these fair isles.
This experiment, which is entirely for fun and by its very nature not remotely scientific, has provoked a huge number of responses and already there are votes going to restaurants from all over the UK.
What is your favourite? If you could go anywhere for dinner tonight, where would it be?
Lots of people have asked if they can vote for themselves but wouldn’t it be nice to let others do the trumpet-blowing on your behalf?
Leave your favourite in the comments below or on Twitter using the hashtag #toprestuk (CC @GuideGirl and @fionamaclean). Once Guide Girl has reached critical mass in terms of the number of replies both on the blog and on Twitter, we’ll publish the results.
Remember – it’s just for fun!
