Steve Munkley, Craft Guild vice president and executive chef at the Royal Garden Hotel, received the plaudits at LACA, despite being over 1,000 miles away in Ibiza.

Outgoing LACA chairperson, Sandra Russell, presented the annual LACA Chairman’s Award to Steve for his continuing work on Finishing Touches. For the past four years Steve has been at the forefront of developing the annual competition at the LACA exhibition, held in Birmingham. The static culinary display salon is aimed at all levels of staff employed in any aspect of local authority catering capable of producing excellent craft pieces.

Martin Bates, CEO of the Craft Guild of Chefs, collected the award on Steve’s behalf. He said “The standard of entries for this competition just seems to get better year after year. Steve Munkley is the main person responsible for making the competition what it is today.”

Steve, who is currently away on the Spanish party island, with wife, Michele. The couple are celebrating their Silver Wedding anniversary in the place where they first met.

Delighted with his award win, Steve said: “Moving forward we are looking to develop Finishing Touches even further in the years to come.”
