At the recent Hospitality & Tourism Summit organised by the BHA (British Hospitality Association) we learned from Tourism Minister Helen Grant MP that a new Tourism Council is to be formed, including leading players from our industry.

This is a triumph for the BHA’s Chief Executive, Ufi Ibrahim, who has long argued that Government and the industry should be working together to create even more jobs and to maximise our economic potential.

I hope that their agenda will include a fresh look at the way taxpayers’ money is deployed, to remove any unnecessary duplication. At the summit Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor of London, complained that the various regional bodies currently compete against each other when in fact they should be engaged in joint activities to market the British Isles as a whole.
